India’s first ‘environmentally friendly’ cow dung paint launched: Coalition Minister Nitin Gadkari unveils India’s first cow dung paint

The paint has been termed as `Khadi Prakritik Paint,` and it will possess antimicrobial properties, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission said

The Indian innovators have worked themselves out, and India has its first eco-friendly paint. The Indian market is home to many innovative inventions, and this unique paint definitely makes it to the number onespot.

 According to the Bureau of Media Intelligence, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Traffic and Highways and Small Businesses, unveiled the country’s first new paint on January 12.

What’s different about this from the others?

 Khadi Prakritic Paint is a premium product advertised as environmentally friendly and non-toxic with antifungal and antibacterial properties. It is economical and odorless paint using real cow dung as the primary raw material. It is also certified by the Indian Bureau of Standards, and is released after lab tests and labelled safe to use.

 Khadi Prakritik is available in two forms. Gadkari said, “This measure is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of increasing farmers’ incomes at the opening ceremony. Moreover, it’s part of a collective effort to improve the rural economy to the extent that reverse migration can occur from urban to rural.”

 The paint’s price is in check with the market conditions, and it sells at Rs 120 per liter for the distemper and Rs 225 per liter for the emulsion.

 In the press release, the officials informed that the paint is good to use and tested in National Test House, Mumbai; Shri Ram Institute for Industrial Research, New Delhi and National Test House, Ghaziabad.

India’s first sustainable cow dung paint plant in Jaipur

 India’s first cow dung dye factory was established on the campus of KNHPI (Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute) in Jaipur. It is a division of the famous Khadi Commission and Village Industry. The production unit is set up to maximize the manure paint production capacity from 500 to 1000 liters per day. In a virtual inauguration, the Minister of the MSME Coalition recognized the innovation.  The minister, Nitin Gadkari Ji, has ordered 100 liters of cow dung dye from this event for his personal use and plans to decorate his home in Nagpur in new colors.

 The paint is completely pure and organic. It is manufactured in an automated manufacturing unit and is available in Emulsion and Distemper varients. It holds eight essential benefits and some among the lot are: antifungal, antibacterial properties.

Union MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari virtually inaugurated the model manufacturing plant. The next goal is to establish 50 manufacturing plants for producing khadi Prakritik paint, a nontoxic, environmentfriendly paint produced from cow dung.

The initial plan is to set up 50 plants: for Producing Khadi Prakritik Paint intinally and work its way to higher numbers as the demand increases.

Young individuals could set up the plant. Under the government’s mission to promote entrepreneurship, young people will receive a loan from the Prime Minister’s job creation project and receive a subsidy of  35% in rural areas and 25% in urban areas.

 Advantages of cow dung paint

 It comprises 30%  cow dung, so it has healing and organic properties. The price is steep and cheap compared to other brands in the same domain. Establishing the production of this organic paint in rural areas is not difficult because cow manure is sufficient. This will maximize rural employment opportunities and relieve pressure on urban areas. Also, the demand curve for cow dung tends to rise, so the cows will not be moved to slaughterhouses.

 Investment required

 It costs Rs. 12-15 Lakhs to build a cow dung dyeing factory. Mroeover it will be used to create rural jobs and increase farm household income 

 Funding to start this business is subject to the government plan for the MSME sector. About 11 people will get jobs in the factory. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission charges a license fee of Rs.1 Lakh at a time to provide and sell technology through the  PANIndia network of approximately 8600 Khadi retail outlets.
